New Zealand motorsports photographer Dirk Klynsmith was assaulted and knocked unconscious this weekend while covering the ITM Auckland SuperSprint in Pukekohe. Fortunately, the whole incident was caught on camera by another photographer, and the responsible party has been identified.

Here’s a little bit of comic relief on a day when about half the US population is in dire need a bit of comic relief.

My name is Nick Fancher and I’m a portrait and commercial photographer who specializes in lighting, specifically with the use of small flash in unconventional locations.

One of the most difficult things in photography is to stay motivated and inspired. I know that I’ve personally hit “photographer’s block” many times in my career.

GoPro made the shocking announcement today that it’s recalling each of the ~2,500 GoPro Karma camera drones sold so far in the 16 days since it has been available. Why? Because there’s a chance the $799 drone can lose power during flight and fall out of the sky.

The iPhone 7 Plus has a new Portrait mode that artificially blurs backgrounds using info captured by the two rear cameras. If you want a similar look but don’t have an iPhone 7 Plus, check out the new Patch app for iOS. It uses neural networks to generate faux depth and blur.

I’m an experienced wedding photographer who has wanted digital medium format for a long time. I use a pair of 1D Xs with the typical lenses that you would expect a wedding shooter to use. I never was intending on replacing my Canon gear, but rather supplementing it. My idea was use the medium format for location shooting, and use my Canon’s for everything else.

If you’re a big fan of Canon’s cameras but can’t quite muster the pocket money to buy the newest 5D, you’re probably keen on news about a different camera: the followup to Canon’s entry-level full-frame 6D, the 6D Mark II. Sadly, that camera is still a ways off, but here’s everything we “know” so far.

A few months ago I was blown away by some photos taken by one Victor Danell with a modified Helios 44 lens. His process was to “polish” the glass elements with a strong abrasive and sand the inside of the barrel in order to increase how light bounces around.

If you’re going to be shooting in an area where you’re genuinely concerned you might have your camera stolen, it’s probably wise to prepare. And if you prefer the DIY “on-the-cheap” approach, then this simple ‘theft-proof’ camera strap may be exactly what you’re looking for.

It’s a young art form we practice; nevertheless, photography’s history is rich with beautiful stories, prints, and cameras if you’re willing to dig deeply enough. The short film The Camera Collector digs deeply indeed.

Many photographers hate weddings. In fact, it’s a bit of a stereotype that photographers do some other kind of photography as their passion, but take weddings “to pay the bills”.

The Leica M-D (the digital rangefinder with no LCD screen)—all hype, or the real deal?

In about one week, we will mark the anniversary of the most traumatic and violent piece of French history in the last decades. On the 13th of November, 2015, several coordinated terrorist attacks took place in Paris, less than a year after the attacks against the newspaper Charlie Hebdo.

If you have $200,000 to spare, you may soon be able to buy one of two early Leica RIFLE sets that were first sold back in July 1938. The cameras will be auctioned at Leica’s 30th WestLicht camera auction on November 19th.

Canon has built its own Oculus Rift app, giving users a virtual environment where they can go out and improve their composition skills while they try out some of the gear they’ve been lusting over.

It’s an age-old question: how are you supposed to get hired as a photographer when clients are only looking for photographers who already have experience? World-renowned photographer and entrepreneur Chase Jarvis has an answer for you.

Last year, journalist Esther Honig published a viral series of images showing how photo retouchers in 27 countries around the world “enhanced” a portrait of her according to their cultural preferences. Inspired by that project, the UK medical website Superdrug Online Doctor just published a similar experiment that explores body image.

The release of Microsoft’s Surface Studio desktop made a big splash with the photo community, not least of all because of the stunning launch video Microsoft used to announce the innovative computer. A video that was filmed, it turns out, by an incredible robot arm thingy.
